High Rope Course
Climbing among the snowy treetops.
Austria's highest rope course in the Wildschönau is open all year round!
Not a single tree was felled to create the Wildschönau High Rope Course, the highest of its kind in Austria. The stations hang in the air at heights between 18 and 24 metres above the ground.
"Not one branch was cut" boasts initiator Markus Pineider, who developed the course and integrated it carefully between high pines.
The course is open in winter as well - another first. "Actually the course is easier in the winter" says Pineider, "the ropes and the trees don't spring back as much due to the low temperatures and the wobble factor is reduced". There are 27 stations in three different categories. The shortest challenge in 8.5 m long, the longest 25 m from platform to platform. The names sound hamless enough, e.g. Mixer which is a rope bridge with various lengths of step or "Egg Timer" where you have to crawl on all fours to get to the end. The "Bowling Alley" is a bit more demanding, here you trot along a metal cable holding on to wooden planks that hang above your head.
The highest point is at 37 m. From here you have a clear view into the Inn Valley and over to the Wilder Kaiser Mountains and now and again you spot a squirrel at eye level, jumping from branch to branch.
Gliding through snowy treetops has to be a unique experience!
Kids as small as 140 cm can participate and play Tarzan in the woods around Oberau.
